In Japan, RPGM3 is a spin-off of the rpg tsukuru (rpg maker) series, and was made intentionally to only be capable of making one type of game. For this reason, it's extremely limiting and such. The most popular reasons for not liking it are: 100 people limit, people means [party members + townspeople] (so if you had 8 party members, you could only have 92 townspeople, TOTAL) no camera nor event control whatsoever, so much for cutscenes annoying that they shouldn't have done

Actually call me crazy, but I still think I want to buy number 3. Infact my mom has been bugging me about getting a christmas present, and today is the deadline. I'm going to tell her to get me this.
My reason for doing so: Alright I understand that RPGM3 is to limiting, all of you say it, I completely get this. But to limiting may help me a bit for a few reasons. One thing I like to do (maybe more then most people) is work on the game's story line. It is what I look forward to when making a game. Now don't get me wrong. I love making a script and seeing how cool it works, and none of you have seen, but I am fairly good at it. Not as good as oh say, 2/3 of you, but I just thought back at what I had done.
-Made 85% of a CBS, a system with a FF1 feel to it. I had originally taken the CBS walkthrough and got started from it, then went through and customized as much as I could. THe only things my system was technically missing was all the fancy calculations for attacks, displaying things on the screen, (such as my teams health, not a command for skills and such, had that down) and lastly making the enemy smarter. I had things such as escape from the battle and such. So only missing a few parts.
`Like everyone under the sun has done, a Action game. I had the system completely in where you played a dragon and went around biting things. Thanks to Nash's enemy script from the past, with a little tweaking for what I needed in my game, the game was perfect.
-Menus. Yes I managed to make a nice little menu. Had options such as change weapon, class, etc.
I had many other things along the way some I really can't remember. But I never really made a full game. I just had a ton of these ideas in it. So I started to work on my game LAD. It used the DBS, which i had nothing against. I used it because for once I just said screw making something new I have a very complex and emotional story line for this game I want to see in, so i foucsed alot more on the story line. THe game never got done because of WoW, but i was fairly far into it. THe begining was cliche and we'e all seen it, but that was intended, i alrready had most of the story line written on paper and I still have it stocked in my head and i would love to start working on it again.
So bascilly why i would want this game? First of all. It has the battle system i like. It most likely has restraints in it, and maybe some we can't get around, maybe some we can. But overall i love this type of system and its what i always wanted from the start of RPGM2. So yeah I am thinking thatoverall limitations will help me. Unlike alot of you guys, I am ok with alot of Default things. I just like coming up and placing in the storyline for a game more then anything. THese restrictions may stop me from doing something different and just get to the heart of the game.
But who knows. Hopefully I am right on this, because overall I just like working on story lines. I have so many inside of my head that would just love to be in some game.

I don't think you're alone in your desire to be able to focus on the story and characters and not have to worry so much about the technical aspects. I think that is what "separates" those who are RPGM2 fans from those who are not. Many of the regulars here think RPGM2 is cumbersome, but we appreciate it for its "potential" -- that is, it can be used to make just about anything you want. So it is almost to be expected that many of the members here probably would not be satisfied with RPGM3, because it lacks the very elements that we love in RPGM2.
I'm not saying that if you like RPGM3, you're not a true Domain member. All I'm saying is that if you only see a so-so acceptance of RPGM3 by the Domain community, it is because of the nature of the community itself. The Pavilion, for example, which was largely unhappy with RPGM2, may have a pretty strong RPGM3 following.

What killed the design spark I had with RPG Maker 3 for me, was that it had too many limitations that weren't necessary. For example, there was no base MP value. That meant you had to make a mana powerhouse or a magic straw, it's difficult to make an inbetween(not only that, you can't edit character HP/MP through events). Also, there was an EXTREME lack of event commands. It was difficult for me to make an event that appeared and disappeared with a flick of the switch(because the game wouldn't let you do some things once they were undone). Also, the storyteller mode replaces all the cutscene abilities you could use for all the other games. While a great feature in itself, it doesn't compare to the direction you could use in say, RPG Maker. There's just so many nitpicks you can find, even when you don't want to.
I mean, you can make an easy to use RPG Maker without all the stupid limitations 3 had. It's very easy to use and make a pretty big game in a short amount of time, and for that I give it props. But there are too many limtations IMO to make it a game for any degree of serious designing. I recommend you get RPG Maker 3, but lay off RPG Maker 2 for a VERY long time, so you can really enjoy it.

yeah, that is one thing i won't enjoy though is this storyteller thing though, I have a bad habit of spending a month on the opening scene of a game(not that I was confused I just liked making things look cool). But like I said in my other post, that could help me in the long run of actually getting a game done. And nah there is no way i would really expect anyone to like it a ton, more then RPGM2, because it would take a ton to beat RPGM2, it was just one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
