revolution.nintendo.com/Check out the official site for the reason for the new name change. I, like most everyone else, find the the new name a little strange. However, once you use a name enough times it starts to grow on you. Right now, Wii has no meaning to most people so it seems odd, but the more you use it to refer to the new Nintendo console the more the name will make you think of the console when you hear it. Unlike NES, Wii sounds like other words (we, whee, and wee) so conversations about the new Wii system will sound funny to people who don't know what you're talking about. Most people think Nintendo is stupid for doing this, but it may in fact be pure genius. The name is already spreading like wildfire as people discuss how silly it is. It's all about getting the word out and no publicity is bad publicity. All hail the Wii!

They are obviously going for the simple name to along with its sexy little system. Pretty much like Ipod. I didn't really like the name at first, but once I saw the logo, I warmed up to it. I for one can't wait for the Nintendo Revolu...... I mean... Wheeeee!

I also think the name is genius for many reasons:
-The crappy cover-up reasons Nintendo stated -Gets a lot of people talking, bad publicity is better than no publicity -Everytime you think about it, you'll probably make a joke and laugh... subconscious anchoring
Man, someone at NoJ must be a major in human psychology.

Yeah, I definitly think that the logo is more fun to look at than to actually say. Which is a first for words.
