OMFG!!! The best horror movie ever made! Nothing, not Exorcist, Poltergeist, Ringu, Grudge or whatever else you could come up with can compare to the marvel that is:
[glow=white,4,360]Silent Hill[/glow]
For those of you who are devout Silent Hill fans let me just say that this movie is 95% accurate to the games. Only the beginning was out of sync with the games. For those of you who are not fans of Silent Hill, or even if you don't know what or where Silent Hill is, go and see this movie in the theater! I am so extremely in awe of this movie I have already gone to see it twice! Words cannot accurately describe what a joy this is to see. I don't think I've ever experienced an event like this one. This movie gave me that same "WOW" after experience that the first Matrix left me with, or the way I felt after the very first time I say the opening to FF8, or the PS3 demo of FF7. I got goose-bumps watching it. I would have thought that I would never give any movie a must see classification, but this is most certainly one to do so. Go, enjoy, be scared, bring a girlfriend, or anyone who has never seen/played/heard of Silent Hill. Spread the word people!!!

Strange. Everything I've read up to this point suggests that the movie doesn't do the game justice and that the plot is completely nonsensical. Several reviewers stated that the first hour is full of enough suspense and weirdness to keep most horror fans happy but after that it's a big letdown. High praise was given for the excellent use of the game's music throughout the movie and that there are many characters from the games that show up, but overall the movie fails to deliver. I believe I did see one reviewer that enjoyed it, but you are the first to give it high praise. I haven't see the movie and don't plan to since I'm not a fan of horror in any form (I'm a wimp. There I said it ). If anyone else thinks the movie is great and well worth seeing, I may be persuaded to see it. I did watch Resident Evil and that got some really bad reviews.

I saw it opening weekend. I must say i really enjoyed it as well. Featured game music fit the mood of the scenes, the environment was accurate, and even the camera angles were similar to the games. Unfortunately, the last 30-45 minutes broke the spirit of the game. This is probably a ((((((SPOILER)))))), but the end was just a gore-fest needed to attract diehard horror fans that never played the games. Plus, the "answers to all the questions" portion was a big disappointment. ((((((ANOTHER SPOLIER!!!!!!!!!!!)))))) Witchburners and vengeful spirits just arent Silent Hill worthy in my book.
Up until the recap, the movie is almost flawless. Some bad dialogue here and there, but easily forgiveable

I just got back from seeing the movie. I myself personally loved it. I went in with low expectations, and I ended up wondering why I even read reviews anymore. First let me start off by saying while being a fan of the series, I only ever beat Silent Hill 2, and never even touched 4. But it is easily the best videogame movie ever made, even better than Advent Children. The movie is over 2 hours long, so yeah, its pretty long. But the movie could have been shorter, since much of the movie just has the main character running around, and to add the movie has an odd pace. Though the movie has a somewhat odd pace, its story folds out very well. Unlike the games though, the movie explores Silent Hills mythology. You pretty much end up with a story with many surprises and twists, the story itself is almost flawless. But it is very very violent, extremely more so than the games. Some times its just plain brutal. And the movie even goes as far to be even more disturbing than the games as well. So yeah, the movie definitly isn't for everyone. (A big warning out to Dungeon Ward ) I myself never get scared in movies, not even this one, but I will say it sure as hell creeped me out in some scenes. <((SPOILER))> Those baby monsters were something that I didn't expect, credit to the film makers to making something creepier than the actual monsters in the game while staying true to the spirit of the game. <((SPOILER END))> I think while you can never stay within the spirit of someone elses creation, the movie is handled differently than the game. But unlike other game movies, the movie still gets what makes the games so great, and brings the essence of it with. Though while standing on its own. Now for my opinion on the acting, I was very happy with it. I like movies that get actual movie "actors", not movie "stars". If you like me know the difference, good. I have to give major credit to the girl in the movie, I never seen a child actor do her job so good. I normally don't like child actors, well because most of the time there too young to understand the finer points of acting. She was able to potray many personallities flawlessly. She is so adorable as well! I reccomend it along with TFR.

The main reason the movie seemed somewhat confusing sotry wise I mean...Is because not that many people ever played the game, thus they don't really know all about the game. I beat Silent Hill,2,3,and never played 4. I knew the story,so when I saw it nothing was confusing. Oh and SIlent Hill in my opinion was NOT better than FF7 Advent Children, (Spoiler)Yeah there are alot of weird ass things in the movie but it lacked something that the game had...Well thats my input on the movie out of 5 stars I give it a 4.

Unlike Advent Children.... Silent Hill you know.... Has a plot.
I love advent children, but I won't deny it was shallow.

From the sounds of it, both Silent Hill and Advent Children suffer from the same problem - if you don't know the source material you can't follow the story. Case in point, everything I've read about Silent Hill is that is doesn't have a plot (or the plot just doesn't make any sense). From what Takisu says in his post (May 4, 2006 - 11:48PM), he notice that the movie would be confusing to anyone who hadn't played that games.
I will admit that the plot of Advent children was a bit simple, but the movie was more about the action. Very few action movies have very complex plots since that would just slow down the action which is the whole point of the movie in the first place. Actually, horror movies don't need good plots either since the only point is to scare the audience and the best way to do that is to have them confused about that's going on and wondering what will happen next.

Are you kidding me? Silent Hill has a really good plot, it actually explores the mythology of Silent Hill, and literally spells out everything. I can't see how it would confuse anyone who hasn't played the games.
But on the other hand, Advent Children relies on the viewer to know its ENTIRE past. Even I was confused at some points.... I thought Lucrecia was Jenova, but the movie says that Jenova was a calamity that fell from the sky a long time ago. So I don't know.

I haven't seen the movie or played the games (other then a few demos) so I really can't say how good Silent Hill is at explaining things. All I know is that several reviewers (including one who had player Silent Hill 1), found the ending confusing and non-sensical. Since you have played the games you probable didn't notice that some characters did strange things (since to you they would be in character but to someone else it wouldn't make sense at all). I'm still not sure if I should see this movie. I think I'll go to MI:3 instead. Another action movie with little plot, just the way I like them.

Tom Cruise is kinda........ gay.
Its a shame hes in it, because it looks like the movie has an awesome arsenal of weapons.
<((BIG SILENT HILL SPOILER!!!))>
How was the ending confusing? It showed that The mother and her daugter died when they crashed there car, and the officer died when she crashed on her bike. The were all dead through out the entire movie, and the entire church poeple were damned, so they were stuck in Silent Hill.
<((SPOILER END))>
