Here is just some misc. notes about some misc. stuff in my game if anyone wants to know.
How monsters are created:
Monsters are formed by a process that modern scientists of Athalia have named "Selective Materialization," where stray molecules are basically smashed together with paranormal deviant energies. The end result of this process forms various creatures that live and grow, otherwise known as monsters.
These paranormal entities, despite their own level of growth, feed off the energy of the nearest living being (such as a human being) to add to their physical attributes and constitution.
Monsters will grow indefinately if left in an unpopulated area, and will naturally become stronger and harder to "dis-associate" it with this realm (kill it) as it has gained more physical qualities. Therefore, unpopulated or normally unvisited areas will hold stronger entities.
There are several classifications of monsters that plague the world of Athalia. Some are animalistic, some are magikal, some are inanimate objects drenched in deviant energy, among others.
If anyone wants to know more about monsters, just ask.
The governments of Athalia:
Once a small country, the Vetran Empire embraced the arts of warfare and became the feircest armed force in the entire world. The Emperor Tori Morenso III set out across the land to build a "dream empire" out of his neighboring countries who had no governing bodies or armies for that matter. He systematically assimilated counrties and cultures outward until he reached across the small seas to the Fraylish and Gael Isles and as far north as the Harwin Peninsula. If he would run into resistance, he used his army to crush the country into submission.
The two countries he could not conquer were the savage tribes across the ocean who banded together in a large alliance, and the cruel Triak Union of the far northeast who had already started conquering countries themselves under rule of King Brekin the VII.
Tori Morenso III died of old age in the year 603 ASD at the age of 137, leaving his empire to his son Tori Morenso IV who was 35 years old. The IV was ambitious as well, initiating the first and only global war in history. He was met with a stalemate in the year 659 ASD. A Peace and "Imperial Limit" treaty was reached, leaving the Triak Union, Vetran Empire, and Ton'Gri Tribal Alliance in power up to the present day. They are referred to as the "Triad Powers."
There have been many bumps in the road, however. Vetra continuously seeks to colonize Wilderness (unpoulated) Continents and land areas against the wishes of the other two powers, sometimes sparking war threats, but most of the time colonies are abandoned anyway, due to the extreme hostility of local monsters. Vetra's present emperor is Morenso the XXI.
How magik works:
Magik is an ancient science, first mentioned by the Books of the Six Saints Divine(see Religion In My Game Post). Magik is scientifically sound in theory, but still some of it's mechanics are considered paranormal.
Magik is stimulated from a being's constitution and the surrounding energy in "spacial limbo." An untrained Magik user will become very tired or physically ill if he/she/it over extends their capabilities. A magik cannot be considered as tangible, but rather a feeling manifested. This explains why a being of physical origin gains abnormal abilty in dire situations, known as "Dire Manifests" (Limit Breaks).
Magik's effects vary depending on what the user/caster's origin is. Is the user a meta-physical being like a monster? Is the user a human or other being of physical origin? Is the user a monster which has gained physical quality?
Under most (90%) situations, a monster CANNOT kill a physical being like a human, but can cause them to lose consciousness. This is because a monster usually does not have enough physical quality to end the life force of a physical being. Humans for example, CAN end the force that holds a monster together because monsters are not as well constructed physically.
Magik (outside of "God's" true miracles) CANNOT raise a dead being, heal purely physical diseases and ailments such as life-long blindness or cancer, or destroy structures like a wall.
Magik CAN (dependant of caster) kill a being, cause magik blindness, poisoning, magikally paralyze a being, physically damage to an extent, burn, chill, cause magik "drowning," choke, restore health, increase awareness, shield, etc.
Magik can also enhance physical attacks by adding magik to the pure physics. These are called "Partial Manifests," or skills. Remember that not everyone has the same magik abilty or potential.
Any questions on magik?
