Well I finally uploaded some of my cutscenes, which include some VFX characters or vehicles. All of them are still in the rough draft process and are subject to revising. I know some of you don't have windows media, or don't use Internet Explorer, so let me know, and i'll email them to you. Once again your designs impress the poop outta me!
I do have a somewhat less than humble suggestion:
The character walks so stiffly that a walking motion would make this effort vastly better.
Have you seen the "walking" motion used for the weapon characters in Videogamedrome?
Scripting all the changes between the walk motion and the attack motion (and the damage motion in battle) is not difficult. I hope you plan on animating the character!
That would more than double the WOW-ness that he evokes. Even a simple arm swing would make a huge difference.
A small loop of size changing would also give it the "wait" look you see on enemies in battle.
It is still fantastic regardless. I just think it would be far better if the character wasn't so stiff.
Great Job!
Does what's-his-name appear on screen in battle? With VFX that's easy.
I am looking forward to a demo!
Oh yeah... I use Windows ME and Mozilla Firefox. No problem viewing the files. Unless slow counts as a problem. It's the old computer,... The new one is online as little as possible.
Peace.

Thanks Rodak. Care to help me out a little? What do you think I should do to give the character less stiffness? Like I mentioned many times, overall scripting isn't my "forte", thats what you guys are for..lol I have noticed that when my character walks they "Glide" as I use "Party Direction"..Any tips?

OK, if you have the ability, go download Videogamedrome.
I am not just pushing my own stuff here. It has lots of examples of this.
For a first step try something like this:
Copy the vfx character and paste it (for safety... now you can ruin it and still have a back up.
Based on his stiffness I'll assume he is a one frame effect.
Make it 60 frames.
Go to frame 60 and make a new placement for each element.
Now he looks exactly the same but runs for 2 seconds.
Go to frame 30 and rotate one arm until it is pointing straight down.
Now go watch the animation.
The arm swings down and returns.
Now he'll do the annoying motion all the preset characters do with their arms.
Alternatively you could make him just a little taller and thinner at frame 30. This will mimic the "Wait" Enemy Action.
The key here is making the last frame identical to the first.
Just set this effect on your invisible character and he'll always be moving.
I'll have more time later, my lunch break ended 5 minutes ago!
Gotta run.
Peace.

The videos are on a hosting site.
I guess it is just not MAC friendly.
If there is a .max file or something I can help.
Peace.

Umm, spidey/Rpg lover..My body creations all depends on what type of character I'm making..I usually use one of the "Iceicles" for longer dudes. I knew you wanted to have a cloak of some kind for your character, i'll see what I can help you with.
Nash, I could send ya the files if you'd like through email?

Getting way off the Videos topic here... but if Spidey is all VFX Flipping should be poop simple.
Just make the vfx do the motion and use:
Apply together Clear All Effects {whatever command you use to place the new effect here} Wait {length of flip} {whatever command you use to place the original effect here}
That is the basic framework I used for making the VFX Sword character in Videogamedrome swing.
Let's see...
Nope.
I can't think of anything to bring this back on topic...
It's adrift.
Somebody Talk About These Videos!!
Peace.

i'll save you, Rodak.
the videos were good. the vfx characters and bike were excellent, but as rodak said you should give them walking animations. other than that, everything looked really nice. the map was done well, too.

Nash; You should tell sendit.edu that they spelled Rodak wrong.
I looked at my tips for arm motion and noticed I forgot to mention that you should start the opposite arm at the opposite end of the swing and move opposite to the other arm.
You'd probably have gotten that on your own, but I wanted to have an excuse for posting my nodak joke!
Peace.

Those look pretty sweet. I look forward to some animations (there will be animations?), and congrats on good work. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with Doan on this one! These should have been posted as stills until the animations are made. Your designs are still as good as ever. I hope my guide will help get them animated. If only Ducky won... He'd be an example more suited for this purpose. I'll try to include some sort of basic section on this for you. Here's a quick idea: Make the wings a 30 frame animation. At frame zero have them at the lower extreme of a flap. At frame 30 place a new element and exit. Now it should be "Animated" for the whole 30 frames even though it is not moving. Go to frame 20 and "turn" them so they are at the upper extreme of a flap. Now they will raise and lower. The timing is set so the down stroke is faster. I think wings should work that way, but if you move the element at frame 20 to frame 15 it will be equal, and if you move it to frame 10 the upswing will be fast while the downswing will be slower. I hope that helps. Peace. <><><> EDIT: <><><> This took longer to make an animated GIF image than it did to make in the VFX Editor (and script). I know you can do that! It would look cooler if there were 3 feathers on each side which unfolded like a fan or moved at slightly different rates. Experiment! Peace. <><><> EDIT 2: <><><> I could not bring myself to delete this without uploading it first! s44.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=17REFFS3DNI9F2WP0XN3B38C1FPeace.

I too have been experimenting with angel wings, and that is one of the ways I have tried. Its really a pain in the ass trying to make one with a lot of feathers.
Edit: And hey bud, really well made bazooka. I too have made one before, but that one is damn impressive.

Pardon me for taking that as a challenge. [/url] I found that to be a quick job. The image links to the short mpg file from which I made that little animation. With resizing and coloring and effort this would make a Great VFX model for an Airship! Peace.

Its no problem, but I tried a different way, like about.... I don't know, 10 feathers on each side. Its still a work in progress, but you will see it in one of my upcoming games.

Can't anyone convert those files for me? Not I. These are hosted by a site with an embedded player. There is no way to open the file remotely to convert it. I tried to take a screen shot (of the monitor display) and it still failed (something about streaming images). This one is up to Dark Horizons. I can make mpg files (universally accepted!) but I need a source! Peace.
