As we all know, RPG Maker XP has been released. While the program puts us back into the 2D realm, it has a ridiculous amount of flexibility.... which is why I've pondered putting future(hadn't been started on RPG Maker 2 yet) projects on it. RGS is a fine and easy to use language in terms of RPG making. Hate to brag, but I've started to get it just by reading a few lines, which is very good so I won't have to deal with too much frustration when I get XP. I do hate the price tag though. RPG Maker 2 wasn't even $60, and that's a great program for the console! I want to make near completely custom games on it, so I probably won't use 70% of the resources. It seems that everything's falling into place. I have a very easy program I can use to make custom sprites and possibly other artwork(instead of stuff like paint), I'm getting a mic soon(maybe I can get some voice work into my XP games , it won't be used for just that though) and I already have some plans for the gameplay aspects of my first thought of XP game. The only thing I'm really worried about is the scripting. In order to make flexible CMSs, CBSs and such, I'm gonna have to learn A LOT more than I did when used RPG Maker 2, although the flexibility is very good also, and I'm trying my best to learn RGS. I've thought about XP also because I can make a truly professional game, and market it. ;D Thoughts?

XP is fun. i plan on learning RGS at some point, probably once my programming class gets into more detailed stuff so i would at least have some experience before trying to learn it. my game so far uses all default stuff, but it's far from done... anyway, i've thought about using voices but the problem is every single text box would have to be a different sound file played at the same time as the text. that'd be a LOT of sound files just for voices, and it'd be a pain to implement them. oh well... anyway, yeah, XP is a cool program, and the only complaint i have is the fact that there is no "display party" command. good luck with the making of the professional game...i'm gonna try, too, but i doubt it'll be anywhere near pro for me. w/e. good luck. -the smurf

Good luck with yours as well. Yeah, I did notice a lack of RPG Maker 2-esque functions as well. We can make new event commands though, so I'll be good. ;D
