Many of you by now are screaming at this thing, but never fear I've got some advice to ease your frustrations.
[li] First, do not use the water texture until you are absolutely sure you are satisfied with the design of your land. Land under the water texture can not be raised in the elevation mode! [/li][li] Second, create the elevation map prior to adding the textures. [/li][li] Third, pay attention to the Z coordinates while placing your textures. [/li][li] Forth, the outer edge of the map cannot be traversed. I suppose this is how they handle the whole world wrap situation. Press square in the elevation mode to view the limits. [/li][li] Fifth, any elevation over zero sticks out of the water. [/li][li] Sixth, slope of the land is determined by the difference of the elevatio n between units of land next to each other. Example: a jump from 12 to 215 is almost a vertical wall, while 12 to 65 is a walkable slope. [/li][li] Seventh, fill in the textures one square at a time, like making precise edits in MS Paint. Use the Z coordinates to figure out what type of texture goes where. [/li][li] Eighth, I suggest making your maps more FFX style than as a whole world map. Zone to zone.[/li][/ul] Well, that's all I got for now, but I'll have more for you all later. I need to check some figures and play with it some more. Feel free to ask me anything you want, but realize my trips back to the cyber world are far and few between. Laterz.

Problem with 8th: only 20 fields, that isn't alot to make zones.
good tips though

You and your map making fascination... you crazy. [/li][li] Eighth, I suggest making your maps more FFX style than as a whole world map. Zone to zone.

I already decided on that one... The rest are great tips though. Good to see you poke your head up again. Peace.

[/li][li] Eighth, I suggest making your maps more FFX style than as a whole world map. Zone to zone.

HA!!! i've been doing this from the very beginning! well, actually, its cause i'm lazy. but anyway, 20 is plenty enough to make a couple of zones. so far i have 3, and only two of them are actually active at this point. each one has 2 cities, a dungeon, and anything else that the story requires. if you make them big enough, you can fit more than enough stuff in a zone, and you can always make a couple of islands in one field and use each one as a zone. don't worry doyleman, i doubt you'll run out of fields, and there's plenty of ways around it if you do. -the smurf

yeah, the character limit is mean. so i get around it by limiting myself to 6 people per town, and at the end i'll see how many slots i have left and fill them up.
i don't use a whole lot of storytellers, and 100 should be plenty for me, i hope.
but anyway, i certainly don't see myself running out of fields. and you can have 3000 layouts! that's good news!
