Since my last post I saw both Star Wars and Batman Begins.
Star Wars was actually a lot better than I expected. It shows really well the transition from Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader, although it deep seem a little rushed, like he snapped too fast. But I guess they'd need to do that since it was already three hours. 8/10
Batman Begins was great! I liked the entire Batman series so I expected this to be good, too. One of my friends who went with me didn't like the old batmans but he did like this one. It had a lot better fighting scenes and the special effects were very nice, they covered every plothole leading up to who the Batman we all know is. I liked the Scarecrow's "weaponized hallucinogen gas". 9/10

But I guess they'd need to do that since it was already three hours. 8/10 It wasn't THAT rushed, because in Episode 2 he was already beginning to show his anger and hatred, so it was a two episode transition. From 1 to 2 was a bit of a jump, but that's understandable because they're set so far apart. Also, I don't think Ewan McGregor gets enough credit for these films. When I first heard that he was going to be in it, I figured he only got the part because he was a bit of an insider, but after seeing it, he really does a great job of acting like Sir Alec Guiness. He even looks a bit like him. I would REALLY like to see George do the last three films. The series just feels so... incomplete.

star wars was no good in my opinion. the kid playing anakin is only a good actor when playing off of ewan mcgreggor (who is an excellent actor), they ruined 5 movies of character development on anakin, by throwing him into the darkside, natalie portman did her worst performance to date, the emotion was wrong in the majority of places (they really only got it right with the fight between anakin and obiwan at the end), and i really feel it was a poor end to the star wars regime. Lucas has declined doing the last three from what i understand, and with good reason. at some point we need to realize that while star wars is a staple of american culture, it isnt living up to what it used to. my batman review, in short: www.theconditionals.com/blog/data/23.htmlive since decide it would be 4 of 5. probably the second best batman (i cant stand any of the last three), right under the original. i liked that it got away from flashy special affects and 'fight scenes that roxxors!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone' and went for a more gritty, natural feel. im a big fan of shaky cam, and i thought this movie employed it with a prowess not seen often in hollywood (outside of the bournes, that is) i liked seeing gotham during the day as much as i did. the character development was superb, where it was done at all. i thought that alot of the scarecrow persona, while well demonstrated, was underdeveloped and explained, and the same goes for a few other key characters in the story. so take what ive written here, and what i wrote there, and you have a pretty good idea of what i think of this movie. it made a good summer flick, and in this age of poor movies, it stands out, but i dont think it would have been as glorious when hollywood supplied quality product, or even in the fall and spring seasons. ~ves

Just recently I saw two movies (whiuch is odd for me, as I'm not a hardcore movie-goer).
First was Howl's Moving Castle. I'm a Miyazaki fan, so I had high hopes for this one, and it delivered. It's one of the few animes with good dubbed voices. Throw in the usual odd scene that you can't help but smile at, and you have a good family movie. If you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor, and go see it... Seriously.
Second, I saw Dark Water. It was pretty good actually. I usually don't like thriller movies, but this one wasn't that bad. There really weren't many special effects, so it looked a tad more real. Also, the storyline was a bit simplistic. Nothing was confusing, but some stuff was predictable. You get your surprise ending, so all in all, it was a decent movie.

I thought it was good, but I didn't like the ending. It didn't seem like they had enough hints leading up to it to me. 6/10

Wedding Crashers
This movie had the perfect mix of actors, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken, and others, three of my favorites. The storyline was suprisingly good for a comedy movie as well as hilarious. 9/10
EDIT BY DOAN: Sorry to edit this post, but I saw this movie and I feel that something you put in was a bit of a spoiler... I think you understand.

yeah, wedding crashers looks hilarious.
i saw alexander...eh, it was ok, but it was 3 hrs which really sucked. if it was an hour and a half or two hours it MIGHT have been good, but...eh, i just didn't like it. there were some interesting killings, tho.

I, too, saw Wedding Crashers, and I must say that it is the best pure comedy that I've seen in years. It has enough entertainment and good acting to elevate it above "romantic comedy", but it still has the elements of a romantic comedy that make it a good movie to take your girlfriend to. Everyone played their role very well, and a few plot inconsistencies aside, the movie was great. And there was an AWESOME surprise near the end.

Oy, Alexander was more of a history review. The camera and music that was going on through out the movie were bad choices, and I couldn't follow one thing. It was way too long as well, i give it a 4/10.
Constantine is my newly watched movie, and while it was interesting, it was too complex to follow as well. Some parts here and there made sense, other parts were too quiet (I had to turn up the volume heavily to understand what some were saying), but it was an OK movie, i give it a 8/10
As for Hide and Seek, it was a let down in terms of thrilling, scaring, whatever. it was more of a mystery, and it only made sense at the end, which i hate when movie producers do that. I give it a 5/10.

I too saw wedding crashers, I expected it to be not that funny, but its more of a Dodge Ball or Old School kind of movie, I really enjoyed it. Plus there is a great cameo appearance I wont spoil.
Another great movie is Sin City, this movie is perfect in almost every way. I just got it on dvd and its fantastic.

Well, I recently bought a few used DVDs at the gaming store (they got that great perpetual buy 2 get 1 free sale) and found a couple good ones.
First was "Bubba Ho-Tep," the story of an ancient mummy terrorizing a retirement home in Texas where Elvis is living (along with JFK) and they team up to destroy it. Unbelievable film. Rated R, so grow up first, then watch this!
Second was "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." I had to see that because of two details. First was the fact that it was shot with no sets. They used all blue screen effects to travel the world, and pulled it off well. The big reason though was that the same film maker just got the rights to (and is allegedly in pre-production for) A Princess of Mars, the first novel in my favorite Sci-Fi series; the John Carter, Warlord of Mars stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs!! This is the first film that has managed to get me looking forward to it's release since I heard that Peter Jackson was going to do Lord of The Rings in 3 full length films (PJ has been my favorite film maker since Meet The Feebles) (watch Meet The Feebles too... it's a really strong R rated Muppets show... if you ever wanted to see Miss Piggy do Kermit, then blow his brains out, you'll like it...)
And for my third movie I got "Make Mine Music," the little known Disney sequel to Fantasia. It was not as popular because it used Jazz as well as Popular and Classical music. But if you liked Fantasia, you really should see this too.
These may not be new movies, but should be available somewhere for rental or sale.
I highly recommend all three.
Peace.
