You and your map making fascination... you crazy. [/li][li] Eighth, I suggest making your maps more FFX style than as a whole world map. Zone to zone.

I already decided on that one... The rest are great tips though. Good to see you poke your head up again. Peace.

I'm gonna keep mine and finish a game.
Maybe eventually play some elses (far in the future... I have too many RPGM2 games backed up).
But I'm glad I contributed to Agetec's profits. Some of which DAMN WELL BETTER go into giving us a decent RPGM4!
Peace.

I am happy everyone here loves it. ... Anyways, love, not hate! Sorry to disillusion you, but not everyone here loves this game. I am extremely let down by the user interface. It makes absolutely no sense to me. I never liked the GUI (Graphical User Interface) and I was around when it was new!! Damn You Bill Gates! Damn you to hell!! Or at least to Purgatory (since some people inexplicably like GUIs). I'll read the manual at work today (because I want to get paid to read it... get some of my money back!). That may help. I'll adjust, but first impression is extremely negative. I am just trying to ignore my first impression when I sound optimistic. I'll give it time to grow on me. We'll see. Peace.

I'm a looney. I've had this for only about an hour. Had one of these: And watched some of these: And I just spent about an hour with RPGMaker 3. I am frustrated by the layout. I am an old school computer programmer. I learned how to program by punching cards. My early posts about RPGM2 feature rants about how I hate shared file systems. Well, get ready for rants about how much more I hate Graphical User Interfaces. I miss DOS. I have strong logic skills and will adapt, but since this kind of system is alien to me, it will take time. Remember; I only recently made my first home computer upgrade in over 20 years and am slow to pick up on these new-fangled gizmos. It took me time to get scripts working together in RPGM2, but I took to scripting right away. This is weird because I can't even find anything familiar yet. Well... I refuse to read the instructions until tomorrow at work where I can get paid for it!! Maybe it will make more sense then. I'll post something in the way of a tutorial of anything I figure out that seems either really basic, but elusive, or anything really nifty. Good luck with it. Peace. EDIT: See what fine Belgian Ale does? I wrote that before logging in and posted that before reading your responses. Dark Horizons: Sci Fi will be nearly impossible. Items and objects are nice looking, but very period looking. Some variety, we'll see what can be done... And BlodKnight: Yes, I am indeed pleased to have this even though it is a pale nothing of a shadow of a turd compared to RPGM2. Peace.

It's Animalia Time!
There were only 9 pictures, so it went fast. Imagine... If only they'd done a Cow! Well, RPGM4 better have a cow! And I believe that finishes the pictures for the guide. I am not making the guide, this was a request. I'll link to the guide when it's done if anyone cares... Now... The Solemn Truth awaits. Sounds ominous. Then I'll be caught up on the backlog of screenshot requests, so post more requests in this thread if you want 'em! Peace.

Yeah, The RPGM3 boom (such as it is) is not going to last. Eventually people will want to move on.
I hope.
But thanks for looking.
The Screenshot Business sure is Booming... I don't know if that is a good thing or not! I've got a 2 to 3 week backlog!!
WAIT!! I've got it!!!
BIGFOOT to the rescue?
I'm gonna go post a request that he set up a hall of VFX Objects for screen shots!
Gadzooks! I'm a Genius!!
It's off to Bigfoot's forum...
Peace.

OK, here are the 3D men: This was a far bigger pain than the 2D shots! Everything had to be set up and my monitor on the better computer is going wacky (plus it doesn't like the ancient monitors I have for back up). So anyway, Enjoy this lot. I left out the Adventurer by mistake. I thought you had him from the images I posted before. If getting those shots from the web is a problem, let me know. My Photobucket account is viewable by the public and is at: photobucket.com/albums/b41/Rodak/So feel free to go there and download as you like. I should have the Women and Animals (Plus the first set of RPGM2 VFX Editor shots) next weekend. Peace

I knew a screenshot service would get some daunting requests, but that was a biggie!
Interestingly, it went VERY fast. I just made a "Storyteller" that shows every shot in rapid succession. It is almost too fast to watch, but I can click through frames and pause where I like, so them being so close together actually helped!
The 3D shots of everyone will take longer because they all need to be placed on a map for a decent preview! One of the many limitations of 3 that bug me!!
I'm glad you like them... I expect to see a slew of avatars from those who are constantly changing their avatars! Not so much here as at the pavilion, but I'll know my shots by the backgrounds.
Peace.

I don't know if anyone cares, but... At the pavilion a member requested screenshots of all the variations of character models in RPGM3 for an FAQ. I found a quick way to get all the 2D shots pretty quickly using the storyteller. I found that making the storyteller goes so fast that I actually finished ALL of the variations for all of the male characters while listening to music. Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells was playing when I got started early. Tubular Bells II, Tubular Bells III, and Tubular Bells 2003 got me to the end (and 2003 is still playing). Over 300 screen shots set up and taken in under 3 hours! I recall a challenge by an administrator at the pavilion to the effect of "You try taking screen shots of everything in the game and see how long it takes you.." That was in reference to a cryptically mentioned PDF File from Agetec. I could not find the post, but I now know that I can do this quickly and efficiently. I got the men out of the way first because I don't like them. I prefer women and animals. You should see my games. Anyway... Here is a link to the file. It is 30 MB (compressed) and may be a big download, but it is complete. s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=35U6OJQ6JSCVW2J8OY7XFODO1TThere's a text file as well. It tells where I skipped a picture and threw off the numbering of the file names. Renaming the files will be more time consuming than making the pictures was! Good luck. I may get this done today! Women are next! Then Animals! Is it getting hot in here? Peace. <><><> EDIT: <><><> Done in time for lunch! Here are The Women!: s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=26QR6BG4V9SFH0YI2DQK1G7Z7VAnd here are the Animals!: s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3A4ASL3NNWFF21QIU72PFF9J2AI noticed that the auto numbering system was jumbled by file compression, so good luck making sense of this... There are too many hundreds of pictures to do this myself. Sorry. Anyway, there are a lot of great avatar shots for people in these files so everyone who wants to see this stuff can download it! Peace.

In an effort to Hate this game less, here is the first in a series of tidbits what really shoulda been in the instruction manual.
My biggest gripe about creating my party was that I had to start by choosing their weapon (like that defines who you are or something... Sheesh!).
I wanted a specific character model and could not find it because I had to know what weapon it would wield in advance.
This is the kind of structuring that makes this game annoying as hell to create with.
So here is a list of what happens when you try to make a character:
I hope this breakdown helps somebody hate it a little less than I (and I'll take this opportunity to point out that I could have forgiven a lot more if they'd only included a cow!!) (and don't think I can't have a Love/Hate relationship with this game either... there is much to love, but equally much to hate) (but I digress):
When selecting Animal you get the following character options:
Two Handed Weapon -----Werewolf -----Lizardman
Dagger -----Gorilla
Naginata -----Birdman
Other -----Puppy -----Mythical Beast -----Chicken -----Frog -----Treant
When selecting Female you get the following character options:
Sword and Shield -----Adventurer -----Warrior -----Amazon
Great Sword -----Knight
Two Handed Weapon -----Dwarf
Bow -----Archer -----Elf
Dagger -----Child -----Kunoichi -----Townswoman 1 -----Townswoman 3 -----Townswoman 5 -----Townswoman 6 -----Princess
Staff -----Sorceress -----Mystic -----Townswoman 2 -----Queen -----Maid
Naginata -----Swordswoman
Knife -----Bellydancer (My Main Character!)
Other -----Townswoman 4
When selecting Male you get the following character options:
Sword and Shield -----Adventurer -----Warrior
Great Sword -----Knight
Two Handed Weapon -----Dwarf -----Townsman 5
Bow -----Archer -----Elf
Dagger -----Thief -----Child -----Townsman 1 -----Townsman 2 -----Townsman 4 -----Prince -----Butler
Staff -----Sage -----Mystic -----Townsman 3 -----King -----Chancellor
Katanaa -----Samurai -----Ninja
Tonfa -----Fighter
Other -----Townsman 6
I hope that helps some of us get a wee bit less irritated with this nonsense.
I would have preferred to select my character first, not my weapon. Especially because the weapon slot is not accessible and we can't see what else there is to choose without exiting (without the choice to NOT save the data) and making a new "class".
I find that set up to be not very classy. But it is what it is and I made this for my own reference.
Might as well share.
Peace.
EDIT:
Apparently this was posted in an inside-out form by Valkysas at the Pavilion and I read it so long before I got the game I forgot.
I had my post there locked and could not say "I'm sorry... I did not mean to try to take credit for your work."
So I'll say so here.
This is not an original idea to list, but the list was made in ignorance of the other.
If the presence of this is offensive for some reason, let me know and it will be removed and replaced with really bad poetry about feces.

Here is a quick look at Chou's Prophecy
s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0HLM81FRRBHPT3FCB33JQGNK62I did not read the entire post with the link in it (or just slept since then and forgot) so there is not as much here as I would like... I may try again tomorrow. If Bloody has any suggestions for content, please let me know. I found the encounter rate too high to wander around much and without a password or debug menu I was unable to gather much source material. I never did equip the sword and did not even notice it was not equipped!! Remember when I told you that I do far more programming than playing games? There's a clear example of what happens when you put faith in my game playing skills! I put the time I expected to spend making screenshots and playing around the game into a single high quality animated gif file instead. It shows a truly impressive Custom Battle System! My Critique : Fantastic work on the enemy actions! I was trying something similar for The Clean Underwear Quest, but failed. My biggest complaint is stupid, but the kind of thing that I tend to notice... The Square button does nothing! Invariably the first thing I do when I put in someone else's game is press the [] button to see what they did with it. I am always disappointed when nothing happens. At least put a random silly noise there as a place holder! Or something. A pause button that kills the music and blacks the screen is a simple enough script and truly makes the game or demo seem more whatever word I'm looking for. A small complaint is the use of Virk with his name and model unchanged. I am tired of seeing his model in everyone's games!! But those are both trivial. You did a fantastic job on the CBS! I'll try the sword out when I get back to play tomorrow. It should not present too much difficulty to make another file with that shown. Peace.

And slept poorly last night!
But sucks at Active battle system games so would do better as a Magic Stoner anyhow.

You beat me to the Pinball idea!
I'd love to see a demo or some scripts from that.
I'm working on a version of PONG for RPGM2, but it is not going well.
That's why we have side projects... they keep us working when something else hits a roadblock.
The others sound interesting too.
I look forward to finished stuff!

William is right!!
The word of the day is Serendipity.
OK, I was sitting at my desk at work, drinking my coffee and waiting for work to start (I always get here early). I did not bring my book today (oops!) so I picked up the dictionary (Gadzooks! I'm such a geek) and opened it up. It landed on the page with pictures of 20 different Heraldic Crosses.
A lot of these looked like they would be perfect for crossbow variations and easily created in the VFX editor.
Some with great names and cool appearances were: The Fourchee (each arm forked, maybe shoot 2 bolts?) The Botonee (a cluster of balls at the end of each arm) The Avellan (Filberts on ends {those're the things on Queens heads in cheap plastic chess sets) The Tau Cross(bow) (A stylized T shape)
Some ones that looked great, but had crappy names, were: The Lorraine Cross(bow) (A cross piece at bottom as well as top) The Fleury (Flowery ends)
Some that looked crappy but had cool names were: The Quadrate Cross(bow) The Potent Cross(bow)
I've never seen anyone work real Heraldry references in to a game before. A little research can make your effort unique! Heraldry was, after all, a very important part of historic "Heroes" lives.
Just a thought.
Peace.

Some of these have been used before, but...
Some Villains: The Tough Cookie The Rotten Apple Digitalis (for an electricity/thunder villain)
A Shaman Tribesman: Big Chief... (just prefixing any name with that is funny) Running Way James T. Kirk
Spells: Fire; Incinerate Immolate Cremate
Water: Drench Inundate Drown Flood
Thunder: Shock Value Short Circuit Zap
Earth Dirt Mud (Mudslide?) Pangaea Gaea
Weapons: Swords Damocles (dangerous to use) Pig Sticker Pointed Stick 10 Foot Pole (12 characters, but cliche)
Gloves: Battle Mittens (Again, over character limit) Cross Bows: Ummm... maybe next time
Healing Stuff: Beer Band Aid Viagra (MP Boost?) That's just a quick list. If I get any thoughts for worthy additions, I'll add them.
Peace.

My condolences on your going to New Jersey.
What sorts of names are you looking for?
Try reading any Douglas Adams Sci-Fi stuff. The names he comes up with are truly inspirational!!
Do you want silly or serious sounding stuff? I can't be of much help with the serious stuff (it never made any sense to me) but if you want silliness, I can help.
Peace.

And I killed him. He had been losing weight, and recently I noticed that it was getting BAD. I thought it was just old age at first... I had him for almost 15 years. He'd been hiding for a couple days, and I had barely seen him. The vet said it was cancer. Advanced and Terminal. I had to have him put down. I posted this story here before, but here it is again... just because (call it therapy...) Here is the story of how I met this wonderful creature and how he adopted me - Long Story Warning! I was going back to school as an adult and brought in to the house I was renting many people so I could afford to live and be a student. One of them had a beautiful and freindly black cat. We became freinds pretty quickly (me and the cat, not the people). These people liked to mistreat the cat. They often chased him and tried to scare him just to watch him run. He was very fast, but that is no excuse. One day I witnessed one of this guy's friends flick a lit cigarette at the cat. The cat started to bolt and I jumped over him, picked up the cigarette and flicked it right back at the person. It bounced off his forehead in a shower of sparks. I was proud of that. (Still am proud of that!) He had the nerve to get mad at me for this and asked why I did that. I told him that the cat lives here and he did not. You have to realize, I am not an impressive physical specimen. I am in my forties and still weigh only about 130 pounds. I study Aikido so I can take care of myself, but anytime I try to stand someone down it presents an amusing image. Anyway, after almost getting in a fight, but walking away claiming I was letting the fellow off with a warning, I went up to my room and shut the door. Moments later there was a scratching at my door. It was Dummy (as I called him...). He wanted to be with me. He spent the night in my room with me. Then every night after that he did the same thing. A year and a half later it came time to part ways and the cat owner owed me a couple hundred dollars (I've got this fetish about keeping the utilities on) (mmmmmm, Utilities!) and I knew I'd never see him again, so I told him to just give me the cat. He tried to argue that he wanted to keep the animal. So we did the old movie-scene thing where we each call the cat and see who he goes to. I was calling "Dummy" and he came to me. He became one of my best freinds and we were together for over a decade. I always called him Dummy and he always came when I called him (very rare for a cat). He sleept in my room and was always happy to see me. I never liked cats (I grew up with big dogs) until this poor creature proved the old saying "You don't adopt cats, they adopt you." Just recently I saved a kitten from being strayed in an ice storm. I witnessed the dump the creature out of a box and shove it with his foot yelling "Git!" And this was at work!! (I work in an industrial park). I wanted to hurt that person. Since I do the quality control there I just make sure that everything he does is Perfect or it gets rejected. I wound up keeping her and the two cats got along nicely. Now she is acting skittish. I think she fears that I'm going to take her away next. I hope she gets over it soon. OK, I'm done ranting - Now to try to drink my tears away and toast the memory of the greatest pet I ever had. Rest in Peace Dummy. Your work here is done.

Fun with Animation in general! gif is just the most web friendly way to share them... but they get to be large files, so I resize them. these are created as 10 second animations meant to run at 30 frames per second! Video Compression is something I NEED to study soon... Here's Another! Bigger: liveu-66.vo.llnwd.net/vidilife/image/2006/2/13/357060/1239366L.gifYup... I need to study this stuff more!
