The point of this post is to hear some opinions about real good games that are out there that I should rent/buy. I don't have a lot of money to just throw around at the moment (training for Marines and school eats up my time to have a job) I'm going to trust whatever opinions are put on here, don't waste my money. ;D
I like Tactical RPGs. Let me rephrase that, I love tactical RPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre (both PS) are two of my favorite games of all time. The story in both was amazing (in my opinion) and the secret characters of FFT, and branching story of TO put them in my "classics" category for life.
Adventure RPGs would probably come second, my favorites probably being older ones such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 3 (among others that aren't coming to mind at the moment), since in the last few years graphics has taken priority over story and gameplay.
I also like plenty of action games, my favorite being Grand Theft Autos (Especially San Andreas, couldn't put the controller down) and the Medal of Honor games.
Basically, any games you think are worth buying/renting I'd like to hear about, especially if they fall into these categories.

If you have GameCube, then I will advise the purchase of Tales of Symphonia, and i can probably get the ENTIRE board to back me up on this.
If you don't have GameCube, then never mind...

I agree, get Tales for GC.
It's the best RPG the system's got, it just gets a bit dry after you've played it once.
Also, it's difficult if you play on hard mode.

My absolute top picks. I guarantee you will like them. You'll notice some that you already mentioned. Strategy-RPG____ Brigandine (PS) - My ALL-TIME favorite, ebay's your only chance, and it'll likely be pretty expensive, very addictive and fun and filled replay value, play the game as all 6 countries! Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PS) Final Fantasy Tactics (PS) Saiyuki: Journey West (PS) - Very fun and addicting, got overshadowed by being released in the U.S. a little after the PS2 was released Romance of the Three Kingdoms 7/8/? - Addicting and fun, though no real story, I recommend the other 4 first Fire Emblem (GBA) RPG____ Star Ocean 2 (PS) - Star Ocean 3 sucks balls, but STar Ocean 2 is awesomely addicting because of it's battle system, private actions are cool and the heafty item cusomizing system is a nice addition, you'll get a l o t of hours put into this one, very fun Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES) - Without a doubt one of the funnest RPGs known to man, funny stuff with rockin' gameplay at a fast pace Final Fantasy 7 (PS) Chrono Cross (PS) - Awesome battle system, awesome overall, my one recommendation is that if you find yourself not sure of where to go/what to do go to gamefaqs.com, others than that it's darn perfect Chrono Trigger (SNES) Final Fantasy 6 (SNES) - 6 japan is 3 american Final Fantasy X (PS2) Final Fantasy 9 (PS) Legend of Legaia (PS) - Legaia 2 sucks balls, do not get it Legend of Dragoon (PS) Fighting____ Soul Caliber 2 (PS2, XBox, GC) - You won't play another game for months, a l o t to do and very addictive fun gameplay, if you had to get one fighting game in the world this should be it Super Smash Brothers (N64) Super Smash Brothers Melee (GC) Dead or Alive 2 / 2 Hardcore/ 3 (DC, PS2, XBox) Ehrgeiz (PS) - not as good as the others, but still fun and worth the $8 or less it'd cost now one of any of those Capcom vs. Marvel vs. SNK etc. games, there's really no reason to get more than one though Action____ Metal Gear Solid 1/2/3 (PS, PS2, Xbox) Dynasty Warriors 3/4 (PS2, XBox) - #2 sucks, don't get it Eve of Extinction (EOE) (PS2) - not that long, but still fun First Person Shooter____ Timesplitters 2 (PS2, XBox, GC) - beats Halo 1/2 in speed and ability limitations by far Golden Eye (N64) I'm probably missing some but I'll come back and post them as I think of them.

I haven't played every game Jimmy put up there, but every one I had played on that list are great games and I recommend you play them as well (especially Final Fantasy 7, but most people have probably already played it. If not, do so).
And as for Tales of Symphonia, another great game. Love the battle system. You should give it a shot.

I just finished playing Devil May Cry 3 and Prince of Persia: Warripr Within and both were exceptional games.
Devil May Cry 3 was one of the funnest(is that a word?) games I've played in a while. The little one liners, the multiple fighting styles and the well done story-telling make this a great game. Plus, Dante is one of most kick ass characters anywhere. If you were burned by part 2, then fear not, for this time they got it right. Also, at the end, the final battle was so specatacular that I almost cried.
Prince of Persia: WW has easily been one of the hardest games I have ever played(and I've been playing video games for 18 years!). That aside it was an extremely memorable experience. Once you learn to master the 'free form' fighting stlye with proper use of controling time using the sand of time al most no one except a boss can touch you. And once you recieve the 'final' weapon just about every regular enemy dies in 1-3 hits. The dark mood of the game really immerses you in a world that seems real. And the story, a quest to free yourself from fate is just to cool. An A+ all the way. (Oh yeah, there are two endings to this game)
I don't see any need to own them, but they make great rentals since you can probably beat them in a week or less.

So far I like what I hear. Unfortunately, all I have is a PS2 and a computer. As for these games, these are my thoughts: First, Jimmy, you have awesome taste in games. ;D Brigandine (PS) - Own it, played it and beat it with every country (including the one with the Death Knight), my favorite being the northernmost country (forgot the name), with the dude with the Halberd, and my second favorite being the crazy guy with the scythe Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PS) - Only one word, awesome. I looked around for about two years to get this one and finally found it, and then beat all three storylines. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS) - Another great one, beat it twice, and started playing it again last night. Just got that prick Algus. lol Saiyuki: Journey West (PS) - Never even heard of it, but I trust your taste so far after those first three. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 7/8/? - Haven't heard of this one, either, but I'll keep my eyes open Fire Emblem (GBA) - Same here RPG____ Star Ocean 2 (PS) - I'll look into it, since you seem to think of it as a great game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES) - Own it, there's something addicting and lots of fun about it even though it feels like a little kid's game Final Fantasy 7 (PS) - Own it, had a lot of fun with it at first but after getting pretty far into the story-line it didn't seem to live up to the hype I had heard...action kind of slowed down. Anyway, never beat it. Chrono Cross (PS) - Haven't played this one but it's the sequel of Chrono Trigger (I think) and I own that one, and it's one of my all-time favorites too. Chrono Trigger (SNES) - Answered this one already Final Fantasy 6 (SNES) - FF3 is a great one that I own, too. Shadow's the man! Final Fantasy X (PS2) - Never played it, heard it sucked, but if you recommend it I'll go and check it out Final Fantasy 9 (PS) - Same as above Legend of Legaia (PS) - Never heard of it Legend of Dragoon (PS) - Played it, own it, never beat it, stopped playing for some reason...I should get back to it someday lol Soul Caliber 2 (PS2, XBox, GC) - I'll check it out...what makes it so good? Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Another one that's a lot of fun but looks like it's for little kids ;D Super Smash Brothers Melee (GC) - Never heard of it Dead or Alive 2 / 2 Hardcore/ 3 (DC, PS2, XBox) - Heard of it, but don't know much Ehrgeiz (PS) - Good game, I played it a year, or two, or three ago. It was cool that it was like 2 games in one, with that dungeon crawler with it. (and the mini-games) Capcom vs. Marvel vs. SNK I played them but it seemed like "same old, same old," to me Metal Gear Solid 1/2/3 (PS, PS2, Xbox) - Loved 1 a few years ago, lost interest quick with 2, haven't played 3 yet Dynasty Warriors 3/4 (PS2, XBox) - Heard of it, but don't know much Eve of Extinction (EOE) (PS2) - Never heard of it Timesplitters 2 (PS2, XBox, GC) - Heard it was good Golden Eye (N64) - Great game for multiplayer Devil May Cry 3 - Stepbrother loves all 3 Prince of Persia - Saw previews, but haven't heard much about it Keep the games coming

soul calibur II has some of the best graphics i've seen for a fighter game. depending on the system, you can get a different bonus character with the game (GC=Link, PS2=old fighter-guy from tekken (forget his name) and XBOX=spawn)
along with fighting single you can do team battles, and there's a story behind every character. also there's a story mode that allows you to unlock characters, extra battle modes, and multiple weapons for characters.
the only problem with this game that i find is that once you unlock everything, there's nothing really else to do other than fight (but maybe cause i'm an only child)
ALSO super smash bros melee (for GC) is basically a step up from the original. the graphics are better, there are many more characters, levels, modes, etc. this game can last f o r e v e r if you want it to.
To Jimmy: Star Ocean 3 isn't that horrible, but it's not the best one...

You're the coolest DKoL!! Barely anyone knows of Brigandine, and Norgard/Vaynard was the best by far.

The old dude is Heihachi Mishima.
I played as him, and he doesn't feel right in SC II.

To The Final Rune: no, funnest is not a word, but it should be seeing how many people use it (like me -the smurf

You only have a PS2? Well, that limits your options, but I have some suggestions.
1) Dark Cloud 2- it's an adventure RPG with a ton of customizing options for weapons, monster transformations, even towns. Feels a bit like RPGM2 at times. Although it does look very childish with its cel-shading and young player characters. Definitely meant for younger audiences.
2) Wild ARMs- I'd recommend the third in the series, but if you've never played it, hold out a few months for Alter Code: F. It's a remake of the original (PS1 game) with more party members and an extended story. It's a wild-west themed RPG that had awesome music when it was first released. I only hope the upgrade is the same.
3) Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (first and second): These are nice hack n' slash RPG's that support two player cooperative play. You pick your class, and get to customize your character's skills as you gain levels. On the downside, once you hit a certain point, you find you max out all of your skills, and you have hundreds of leftover skill points while you can still gain a couple more levels. The second one even lets you create custom weapons. Also, another game to look into if you like these is Champions of Norrath, and Norrath: Return to Arms. Basically the same game, but set in the Everquest wolrd.
I'd just like to make a comment on FFX. I reccomend renting it if you have a week to kill. I found it very addicting during the first playthrough, but try as I might, I can't get back into it. It may be because it gets extremely cinematic at times, taking away all control the pplayer has for long periods of time. I find this very frustrating when all I wanna do is play and build up my characters. Of course, that's just my opinion, and others may burn me in efigy (sp?) for saying anything remotely bad of the hallowed FF series, but I just thought I'd put that information out there for you.

Dark Cloud was fun, and I've heard 2 was better, so I'll second that, but I recommend against Balder's Gate: Dark Alliance. I don't see what anyone could enjoy in that game, at all. (don't know Wild Arms enough to comment)
For FFX the worst part (I'd say) are the ridiculously illogical puzzles. I'd advise you to every time you get to one (except perhaps try the first yourself a little or something), go to gamefaqs.com and look up what to do, otherwise you'll get stuck and frustrated for a while (most likely). The story is too simple for about half of the game but starts to develop after a while. The dungeon design is pretty poor and often times is practically just following along a path, or choosing between a few intertwining paths. The cutscenes can get too long and there's no 'Skip Scene' like in Xenosaga and FFX-2. Overall though, the fun/unique battle system, involved/unique leveling system, and graphics and certain songs make it worth playing.

Thanks for the compliment, Jimmy. Seems like we like the same games, anyone who like Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Brigandine are right in the coolest category with me ;D. That said, for everyone who hasn't played it, Brigandine is a must if you like RPG strategy, with the large number of classes that can upgrade, and weapons that you can obtain. Even monsters can upgrade to new 'classes' and become awesome. A must have. As for Baldur's Gate, personally, that game got old pretty fast for me, but for some reason Champions of Norrath got me addicted. Not sure of the real difference. lol. A lot more fun if you play those types of games with people, as they didn't stop being fun when you played with someone. Dark Cloud 2 - I think I heard of it or the original, but never heard much about it until what you just told me, BlackBoxx, although I am a bit interested now after what you just told me, just hopefully it's not so childish looking it ruins the fun Wild Arms - I think I might have played this series awhile back and liked it, but can't remember whatever happened with it. As for FFX, it sounds like it was a game to rent if nothing else catches your eye. Onethat got suggested to me was (not sure of spelling it was a verbal conversation) Disgaia (supposedly a lot like TO and FFT) If anyone has any reviews of that let me know.

Ok. Scratch Baldur's Gate. I don't know why, but I loved those games. Whatever though.
Just one more suggestion. If you like puzzles and story, might I recomend the Silent Hill series? It's a survival horror series that deos an incredible job at creatting a surreal atmosphere. My personal favorite has to be #2. The cinematics were incredible. #3 you would have to play the first one (a PS1 release and now hard ti find) in order to understand the story since it's the only real sequel in the series. #4 they went for more of an action based system which really isn't all that great compared to other action games. But it still has good story behind it.

I've heard good things about the Silent Hill series, so after that suggestion, I'll probably go out and rent it and see what it has to offer.
As for Disgaea, from what Jimmy just said, I think I'll attempt to avoid it unless I can borrow it from someone who has it. Apparently, it REALLY sucks.

personally, i think Animal Crossing for the GameCube is a great and unique game, but as you said you only have PS2, then never mind with that.
so, i think that Stella Deus (coming soon to PS2) looks fairly decent, as does Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana.

I must get god of war. But suprisingly my cousin who is 14 is getting god of war. I reccomend a game that you should just rent and not buy. Project snowblind, the game is beautiful and a good fps, but it's very short takes 8 hours to beat.

I heard that same review from my stepbrother, Taizon. Great game, but short. I'll definately have to check it out.
As for games that anyone would give me an immediate heads up on, anything that resembles Tactics Ogre/ Final Fantasy Tactics/ Brigandine I would definately want to hear about...but it seems like games that good are few and far between anymore.

hoshigami was a headache, but it was decent, if your REALLY desperate for a tactical game. otherwise stay away from it. maybe you should pick up ogre battle. its takes place before LUCT, and in my opinion, is a great game as well.
and i liked the baldurs gates, for whatever reason. they arent even typically my type of game. but whatever.

Haha...played Ogre Battle, too (On my Greats list on Best and Worst RPGs Topic). I was actually got on here now to make a post on here about it suggesting it to people because I saw it in my stack of old PS games and decided to play it again (after I beat FFT for the 4th time Never got Byblos for some reason...) hearing that there were tons of endings. And I always need to get every single one or else it drives me crazy...I might be at this one for awhile. As for everyone else, I agree that Ogre Battle is an amazing game, tons of secret characters, secret items, and a good story. As for Hoshigami...can you tell me a little more about it, so that I can get a general idea whether it's worth it to look for it or not? (BTW I am desperate for some new tacticals )
