That's easy enough to do whenever the game is ready for it preview material.

Isn't it amazing how things go when you pick up a blank file after banging your head against another one for an extended period?
I know when I put down The Quest and started Videogamedrome for a break, progress went amazingly fast.
I look forward to a demo (and providing your screenshots & mpg files).
Peace.

Well... assuming you wish to change the title, and sticking with a Rush Theme - How about Freewill: The More That Things Change...
Or Freewill: We've Taken Care of Everything.
Or even Freewill and The Snow Dog!
OK, maybe not the last one...
But I do sort of like the contradiction of the original name (as Doan Pointed out, it makes one pause).
EDIT - I voted for the original title!

As always, the hardest part for me is making NPCs, because I can't think of enough substantial material for dialogue. Meh. Just rip off Rush lyrics! If every NPC speaks in lines from songs, it saves you from having to think up lines and instead you just have to worry about what line to use where! This also works with Shakespeare, Piers Anthony, and The Space Giants!

I made a nit picker's list of easy to fix bugs you may wish to address. It is overkill and none of these bothered me, but I thought you may want it all in one place should you choose to go in and revamp the game. In no particular order, here are the notes from my play through: I found the warps after the time/gate keeper fight were easy to miss for us idiots. I walked right past it. I found it inside of 30 seconds, but that's enough time to just assume there's nothing there and backtrack. The event at the gate after Draco does not stop removing characters from the party until you leave the map. I walked into it several times when playing. Sellers do not buy. Intentional? Some disappearing events do not stay gone at first. I did not take detailed notes on that. Sabaku Island and on have no encounters, while the early areas have a few too many. But it was not insurmountable or too annoying. If you do not talk to the mayor after getting through the Tomb you can keep Angela and Farce, thus having four party members for the training grounds. I tried to proceed but could not get into The next town without Zel. So I had to backtrack and talk to the mayor in Vesi. That could have been a real pain if I did not have the walkthrough. I think a clue should be placed where Zel is supposed to be that you need to get back to Vesi if you still have Farce and Whats-her-name in the party. Hesia has no markings on shops or innes and given the discouragement from entering townspeople's houses, this made me avoid them at first. I gave the game a review for the contest. so feel free to check that out. I accidentally left the map bug notes in the review. Here's the image to show what I meant. I also have a question from reading your walkthrough... Who's Bluewolf? He's not on the member list, so I assume it is a name change. Just curious. Peace.

Wow, that was fast.
I'm working on a quickie game for 3 but don't expect that kind of rapid progress.
I gotta use this time to get caught up on other people's games, your's included!
In fact I only have to mow my lawn today and the rest of the day is for playing (and eating) (and drinking) (and... well... maybe I'd better not say...).
Peace.

So my advice is to make a mini effort of something you would not otherwise do and see what happens. um...how do you mean? -the smurf Well, have you ever heard of the Zen concept? Just doing without thinking. It is very hard to explain. I'll give an RPGM2 example. I recently just opened the VFX editor and started looking for things I never used. I picked the weight. After a little stretching and squishing and turning I had something that could pass for a button. So I saved it, copied, pasted, and made a ten frame animation of it being pressed and returning. Then I added the Doorbell sound (just because I always wanted to use that for something). I made some scripts to loop the effects and an event so I could give it a test press, and it worked. Then I decided it needed to do something. I made a gate and placed it on the test map I placed the button (the button was buried in a wall with only the top sticking out). So the script got bigger. It now opened a gate after ringing a doorbell. Naturally it needed something beyond the gate, so I, without really thinking about it wound up making a complex series of scripts for a puzzle involving popping colored balloons in sequence. I did not plan any of that. It was one of those moments where creativity took over and I was more of a vehicle for it as opposed to trying to drive it. That's a bit of mysticism, I know. But that's the way many artists create, and this is art. Zen is widely taught in Martial Arts because if you can learn to function without being inhibited by having to consciously plan each step, you are more "at one with blah blah blah..." and lots of other corny sounding, but meaningful things. There's even a book called Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair. This only works when you can get in the right mindset, but I come up with the weirdest and most amusing things like that. I'll shut up now. Peace.

I never make what I set out to make.
So much changes in the process of creation that I never plan out what I want in detail anymore.
I just let it happen.
So my advice is to make a mini effort of something you would not otherwise do and see what happens.
That's how Videogamedrome came to be. That, and the Pavilion's Group Project thingy.
Just a thought.
Peace.

Much Cooler!
If you want to add some silliness try increasing Gene's motion speed. If he if moving his arms a little faster while running at that speed it would be in the cartooniernessing ness.
I think.
For better quality try putting the camera down.
Even balancing it in a stack of books can emulate a tripod!
That shaking will go away anyhow.
Nice work on the scene!

wow, why the hell didn't i think of that? I'm surprised by how many people think MSPaint is somehow too limiting for basic artwork. Sure, it doesn't automatically select just pieces of images like expensive programs, but it's free and does all the basic stuff just as well. Anyway... I saw the images. Both pages loaded easily. Nice job. I thought of Marvin on my own but it's always nice to see other people come up with identical ideas... Great Minds work alike. Speaking of which... Yellow Forest Squid? How do you cook it? I can't wait until life calms down a little and I get more play time. Meanwhile your Chronicles are still "In The Pile." Peace.

I tried to view the page, but it kept freezing.
I suspect it is just too large (and I have high speed internet now).
Resizing images is easy.
I'll assume you have a Windows operating system.
Open your images with MS Paint and hit Control + A (select all) then go to the bottom right corner and "drag" it towards the top left corner. That resizes images quickly and easily.
You can also use the Image menu and select stretch/skew. Then adjust the length and width percentages (the same amount or it may distort).
To make it easier you could look for some freeware. I like one called Pix Resizer (may be all one word).
Then you can then make hangnail links and have small pictures here that link to the larger ones.
I hope that helped.
Meanwhile consider making at least two pages of images so it will load more easily.
Peace.

Nice images.
If you can now take screenshots, consider taking some from the RPGM2 games you've made. RPGM3 is already wearing thin with me... I will still download your game after I play the other 2 (your RPGM3 game will probably be done by then) (I'm lucky to get more than an hour of playtime in a given day lately... and that includes working on my own stuff) (I post here while semi-working a lot).
Anyway, it's good to see folks putting up images nonetheless.
I look forward to playing some of your stuff.
Peace.

Yesterday was crazy.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Were the mpgs were all correct?
Let me know if I fell asleep on any of those too. I still have the files, just not any links yousendit may have given me.

Meanwhile, here is the opening bit: And some town strolling: And finally a montage of nifty stuffs: And there is the first preview of The Smurf's newest effort! More to come. Peace.

Sorry, rodak, but that won't work, because I'd have to add br tags to the end of every line. Pressing enter is ignored when rendered in html. Man, I haven't used HTML for so long I forgot that. The file I made is one big paragraph! But at least it doesn't run off screen. Sorry, old man mistake. And Smurf... Halloween isn't for a couple weeks! Whats with all the name changes? Identity crisis? Or just promoting your game's characters? Isn't this the third one? I guess that was a bad attempt at not straying too far from topic. Sorry. Peace.

For some reason, IE6 renders .txt files without a word wrap option (unless I just don't know about it). If there's enough interest, I can convert it to HTML and make it look nice, but that will take some time, and if no one really cares, there's not much reason to do it. All you need to do is put the text in a table. Add these three lines to the top <table width=100%> <tr> <td> And make </table> your last line. Then save it as an HTML file and it will word wrap. I already tested it and it works. Ya doesn't even gots ta close the row or data remarks (no </tr> or </td> needed). If you want I'll send you the modified file so you don't have to do even that trivial amount of work. Peace.

And another one puts RPGM3 down!
Will anyone ever finish a game on that thing without taking a break to work wuth RPGM2?
I look forward to the updated version. I am still waiting to get a weekend with enough play time to get back to playing stuff from here. If you update one be sure to post so I can replace the one I have.
Peace.

Wow.
Three Cheers and a Tiger for You!
I expected a wave of finished games around now (Pavilion contest and all), but from what I read here I didn't think you were that close to done.
Congratulations!
I'll be a while getting to playing it, but will download and save it when posted. I'll trey to play the beginning and give some feedback too.
I'm actually getting busy with my other project and wont have large amounts of time to play other people's games if I want to get an entry in the contest too.

basically, i just make a town and its people, create the events that happen at the point of the game that your currently at, and move on. then if/when you return to the town later, i just make the new events then... and i make items, enemies, party members and stuff as i go instead of "do all the items, then the enemies, then the party, then the game". makes it easier for me in the long run. Sorry to dredge up an older comment, but I missed it last time and thought I'd offer up a FAIR WARNING:That's what I did. Then, after my game almost filled the card I broke it in half and deleted a bunch of stuff so I had two chapters. Now I have to throw it all away and start again because after that... I got good with the VFX Editor. I now have a bunch of really cool VFX in one half of my game (for abilities and more) that I can not duplicate in the other. For your own sanity, especially if you plan on entering this in the pavilion's contest, get good with the VFX Editor now and finish all the graphics you will need in both halves because it is nearly impossible to recreate effects exactly. I found that the subtle differences in the two versions were more annoying than all new effects would have been. Anyway... I advise getting abilities and graphics and anything else that takes a ton of memory, but needs to be in both halves, ready first. Of course I am assuming your game will grow, or already has grown, to more than one memory block's worth of memory... if so, having your visuals and battle system stuff in place and just deleting everything else is vital to proper planning when making a second chapter for your game. If not then none of this matters for your purposes. Just consider it a social call then. Peace

that's great and all, but how do i register these scripts to the buttons? i know how to register a script to [], but no other button. do you do it with script commands or elsewhere? I do not know how Doan did it because I got a blank page when I tried to use the link above (could be my browser here at work), but I think if you simply use the [] script to initiate the custom camera event which could begin with a "User Input: Buttons: constant wait" command and followed by a "Sort: Variable: " and apply if's for each button value (press help (start) over Variable (4?): User Button for a full list of the numbers for each user button). You would then use the "to top" command so they can keep using the event. All you'd need to do is make sure to set a button for ending the event. [] would be the logical choice in my view. Anyone know if that is how Doan did it? Peace.
